What are Ovarian Cysts?

November 2, 2021EirMedBlog2

Ovarian cysts are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that grow on the ovary. They are fluid-filled sacs that can occur in premenopausal women. Studies state that the exact cause for cysts is unclear. They are usually common in women with a high estrogenic diet.

Can I prevent Ovarian Cysts?

Medical doctors usually prescribe women birth control to help prevent them from forming, but there are

side effects of the birth control that can lead to worse reproductive problems than just cysts.

3 ways that you can prevent cysts without birth control are:

☥ Lifestyle and dietary changes.

Consume less meat and dairy products:  These foods contain a lot of hormones, estrogen being one of the main hormones. This can cause the ovaries to become overactive, resulting in an ovarian cyst forming.

Exercise Regularly:  This study indicated that exercising regularly can excessively reduce estrogen. Exercising can help to balance your insulin levels, reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes which is very common in women with PCOS.

Reduce Stress Levels:  When we stress, our body naturally produces and releases hormones into our bloodstream. Constantly stressing can weaken your immune system, also weakening other important organs of the body like the liver, which is responsible for filtering estrogen from the body. This article states that “During stress, natural killer cells (NKT) are expanded in the liver that can in some cases, contribute to liver cell death and worsening of liver disease.”

6 Signs that you may have an ovarian cyst:

☥ Irregular Periods
☥ Lower abdominal pain or pressure
☥ Frequent urination
☥ Sharp pain to one or both side of lower abdominal
☥ Infertility
☥ Bloating

Some people do not experience any symptoms at all so it is always best to have regular pelvic exams to help discover any growth.

Foods to help with Ovarian Cysts:

Consumes foods that are high in fiber, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic. Foods like:

  • Kale and other dark leafy greens
  • Turmeric
  • Lentils
  • Tomatoes
  • Blueberries
  • Almonds

You can Make a smoothies with these ingredients. Ensure that the ingredients are organic.
