Description
Vitex, which is scientifically known as Vitex Agnus-Castus, is used in herbal medicine to treat various reproductive disorders. It is in the Verbenaceae plant family, which has about two hundred and fifty (250) species worldwide.
Vitex assists women in many ways by increasing the level of progesterone, due to the release of the luteinizing hormone. Vitex may in some instances increase prolactin levels, which can result in breast development and milk production in females.
Vitex may influence hormone levels in a number of ways. For example, it’s said to promote the release of luteinizing hormone and, in turn, increase levels of progesterone (a hormone known to play a key role in regulating the menstrual cycle). Vitex is also thought to affect levels of prolactin, which is involved in stimulating breast development and milk production in women.
